Image of a ram, or more accurately a goat, with its forelegs resting on the branches of a tree. It is made in wood, gold and lapis lazuli and was discovered by Leonard Woolley in one of the graves in the Royal Cemetery of Ur (about 2600 B.C.), now in the British Museum, London. The complex recalls the image of the “tree of life”, often depicted with two animals at its sides. Though described by its discoverer as representing a pose often adopted by goats when trying to reach the tastiest leafs, the posture of the animal appears not thoroughly natural and seems to allude to the erect position typical of the human beings
