Head of a ewe of the Sumerian period (3500-3000 B.C.), now in the Kimbell
Art Foundation, Fort Worth, Texas, USA. Lambs were probably sacrificial
animals, offered to the gods and goddesses in particular moments of
the year. More generally, sheep and goats were animals widely represented
in Sumerian art.
