Tree Symbols

Back

Alabaster relief from the palace of Ashurnasirpal II at Kalhu, modern Nimrud in Iraq, dating back from 883 to 859 B.C. At the center of the scene appears a flowered tree, probable symbol of fertility and generative power, flanked by two guardian geniuses with eagle head and wings. The object is in the Pergamonmuseum, Berlin.
