Female Symbols

Terracotta temple model from Porodin (Macedonia), belonging to the Starcevo culture (between 5.800 and 5.600 B. C.). The object shows a quadrangular building with large openings in the shape of an upside down T, surmounted by a great female head, which seems shooting out of the ceiling. This specimen confirms the interpretation of the temple as equivalent to the body of the goddess who was venerated inside it (Gimbutas 2005a). The object is in the Museum of Macedonia (Muzej na Makedonija), Skopje, Republic of Macedonia.
