Female statuette known as “Venus of Willendorf”, 11 cm.
high, carved in limestone and painted with red ochre. It is estimated
that this artifact has been made about 25,000 years ago. It is actually
exhibited in the Naturhistorisches Museum in Wien. The figure shows
particularly emphasized breasts, belly and hips, as to symbolize woman’s
generative function and, in a more general sense, the vital force in
nature. |
