Bas-relief sculpture known as “Venus of Berlin”, found in
the Laussel rock shelter (Dordogne, France), the same site of the “Venus
with the horn”: the two sculptures present many similar iconographic
features. The female figure emphasizes the aspects of the body linked
to the reproductive capacity and holds in her hand a bison horn, suggesting
a symbolic connection between the woman’s fertility and the animal
world. The object could be dated back to about 25,000 years B.P. Facsimile
in the Museum für Vor- und Frühgeschichte, Berlin.
